I had cancer at the base of my tongue and after 7 weeks of intensive chemo and radiation treatments I was left with no taste, no saliva and no lining of the mouth but the cancer has now gone!

At the end of the treatment, I was hospitalised, couldn’t and wouldn’t eat due to mouth ulcers and raw throat, and lost 20kg - not a recommended way of losing weight. Unfortunately, I lost the ability to swallow and the radiation has resulted in the muscles in my neck becoming fibrous and ‘frozen’.

By using Instant Thick I have found it is helping me to retrain my muscles to swallow and there’s no discomfort anywhere in the mouth, throat or oesophageal tract.

Whilst in hospital I was encouraged to have yogurt or a fortified drink to help retain the ability to swallow but they were too painful on the mouth ulcers etc. However, I believe if I had used Instant Thick it would have been different with no discomfort and maybe I’d still be able to swallow naturally.

I will be advising my oncologist of my thoughts in the hope they can help others in similar circumstances.
