Flavour Creations is proud to be named a finalist at the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO) Annual Awards, which will be held at The Hilton Sydney on November 10.
The prestigious event celebrates the achievements of leaders in sustainable packaging, showcasing how Australia’s manufacturers are working towards a greener future. As a finalist in the Food & Beverage Industry category, Flavour Creations has consistently demonstrated improvements in its performance against APCO Packaging Sustainability Framework.
“It is an honour and very humbling for the Flavour Creations team to be recognised in the APCO Industry Sector Awards alongside some of Australia’s largest Food and Beverage brands,” said Bernadette Eriksen, Flavour Creations founder and CEO. “After 25 years in the industry, it’s fair to say we are passionate about making food and drinks that are healthy for our customers and healthy for the planet. We have strong internal policies that act as guiding pathways for sustainable procurement, playing a critical part for new product development, reengineered products and waste management.”
As an organisation grounded in disruptive innovation, Flavour Creations is committed to improving nutritional health across the global community – a goal that requires hard action towards climate change. Worsening environmental conditions have far-reaching consequences for human health, so minimising the company’s climate footprint is critical.
To reduce single-use plastic waste, Flavour Creations launched the BYO Metric Measuring Spoons initiative in February 2022, which eliminates plastic measuring scoops, in select powdered products, by encouraging customers to use in-kitchen metric measuring spoons.
In October 2021, the company also rolled out a new-look foil packaging across their Thickened Ready-to-Drink range. With a streamlined design, the packaging has made accessing nutritional information easier for customers, while also delivering significant reductions in excess packaging, including product information inserts and stickers.
With more than 96% of total Flavour Creations packaging displaying the Australasian Recycling Label, organisations and individual customers can correctly recycle packaging components more easily. A total adoption of ARL-marked packaging is expected towards the second half of 2023.
Flavour Creations currently produces more than 100,000 cups of thickened liquid per day as part of its growing range of targeted nutrition solutions, supporting over 1,800 aged care homes (close to 70% of the Australian market), 600 hospitals, and individual consumers across Australia.
“It’s an innovative and exciting time for Flavour Creations,” Eriksen explains, “Demand for our products is growing globally as we continue to make nutrition enjoyable, accessible, and environmentally friendly.”
