Founder and owner of Flavour Creations, Bernadette Eriksen, has just been announced as a Queensland finalist in two categories of the 2009 Telstra Business Women’s Awards.
Eriksen has been short-listed in the Commonwealth Bank Business Owner Award and the Nokia Innovation Award.
Flavour Creations is a wholly Australian owned and operated food manufacturing company, which specialises in the production of unique texture-modified beverages for sufferers of dysphagia – a swallowing disorder of which little is known.
“I started Flavour Creations after realising the gap that existed in the healthcare market for such products and what positive impact they could have on the lives of the people suffering this condition.” Eriksen said
As founder, owner, and managing director, Eriksen has taken the company from a single employee to 40 plus on the back of her innovative ‘Ready-to-Drink’ range, and this was the impetus behind her nomination.
“The Telstra Business Women’s Awards serve as great recognition for women in business, and I certainly welcome any opportunity to raise awareness about dysphagia, so naturally I was absolutely delighted to be nominated and to be short-listed is a real honour.
“Regardless of the result I consider myself extremely fortunate, as my passion in helping others has brought me a very rewarding career.
“Dysphagia can strike at any age, however, one in three over the age of 65 is affected, and it is very satisfying knowing you have done something to greatly increase the quality of for these people.
“If I were to win I would certainly reinvest the accolade back into raising the profile of women in business everywhere and continue to promote the general improvement in dysphagia treatment by the same means.” Eriksen said.
The Queensland finalist is announced on the 20th October and the national winner on the 12th November.
